In Kileleshwa, Nairobi, along Kandara Road, a quiet educational transformation is taking place. At the centre of it is Teacher Boaz Omuga — an educator whose passion for Mathematics, Physics and academic excellence is changing how students prepare for international examinations and university.

There is a story often told about Teacher Boaz: the teacher who could give Babu Owino a serious run for his money in Mathematics and Physics. Whether told as a joke or as a mark of his confidence in the sciences, one thing is clear: Teacher Boaz has built his name on making difficult subjects simple, enjoyable and achievable.

Today, that passion has grown into Boaz International School — an emerging private institution in Kileleshwa serving learners from Kenya and beyond.

An Institution Built Around Academic Excellence

Boaz International School is becoming a destination for parents who want personalised, high-quality education and serious examination preparation.

The school supports learners across several pathways, including:

– Cambridge International Curriculum — IGCSE and A Levels
– International Baccalaureate (IB)
– Competency-Based Education (CBE)
– KPSEA and KJSEA
– AQA examinations
– Private examination preparation for local and international candidates

Whether a learner attends physically in Nairobi or joins online from another country, the focus remains the same: individual progress, academic confidence and outstanding results.

Teacher Boaz: Making Mathematics and Physics Come Alive

What sets Teacher Boaz apart is his teaching philosophy.

He believes every learner can excel when taught in a way that fits how they learn. His lessons go beyond the chalkboard. They incorporate movement, humour, music, technology, project-based learning, group work, art, theatre and real personal connection with learners.

Instead of asking students to memorise formulas and reproduce textbook answers, he pushes them to understand concepts, think critically, solve problems and apply science to real life.

His Mathematics and Physics lessons are designed to turn fear into confidence, and confusion into understanding.

His experience in Cambridge assessment and marking — particularly in IGCSE and A-Level Mathematics and Physics — also gives him a clear understanding of what examiners expect, and how learners can maximise their marks.

A Learning Environment Designed for Focus and Confidence

The environment at Boaz International School is a key part of its success.

The Kileleshwa campus is calm, organised and learner-centred. Class sizes are kept small so that no student is lost in the crowd. Classrooms are set up for interaction, not just lectures — with space for discussion, practical work, one-on-one coaching and focused revision.

Laboratory activities, assignments, revision materials and assessments are carefully designed around each learner’s needs. Teachers monitor progress closely, identify gaps early, and adjust pace and teaching style accordingly.

It is an environment where students feel seen, supported and challenged — and where academic excellence feels achievable, not intimidating. That environment is what makes the school’s claims about results credible.

Outstanding Results in Mathematics and Sciences

At Boaz International School, achievement is not left to chance.

The school’s academic focus has seen students post impressive results, with some Mathematics and Science performances reaching 90% and above.

In A-Level Mathematics and Physics — where deep conceptual understanding and examination technique matter most — Teacher Boaz places special emphasis on building the depth of knowledge required for top grades.

The wider ambition is to prepare students for competitive university admissions, including leading international institutions and Ivy League universities.

Why Spend Two Years When You Can Achieve Your Goals in One?

The strongest positioning for Boaz is not simply being another tuition centre. It is being an accelerated, personalised international examination preparation institution with exceptional Mathematics and Science teaching.

The school recognises that time is valuable, and that parents want efficient, affordable ways to help their children achieve their goals.

For suitable learners, it offers carefully structured accelerated programmes:

IGCSE: Year 10 and Year 11 in One Year
Instead of the conventional two-year route, well-prepared learners can cover both Year 10 and Year 11 content in one academic year — completing the syllabus, building examination confidence and preparing for IGCSE in a shorter period.

A Levels: Year 12 and Year 13 in One Year
Similarly, selected students can cover both Year 12 and Year 13 content within one year. This requires discipline, intensive engagement, individual monitoring and carefully planned subject coverage.

For families whose children are academically ready, it can mean significant savings in both time and tuition costs.

The philosophy is simple: do not spend unnecessary years repeating what can be mastered through a properly structured, intensive programme.

Physical School, Online Learning and After-School Coaching

Boaz International School understands that learners have different schedules, locations and needs. It therefore offers flexible arrangements, including:

– Physical classroom learning at the Kileleshwa campus on Kandara Road
– Online tuition for students in Kenya and abroad
– After-school academic coaching
– Personalised examination preparation
– Intensive IGCSE and A-Level revision
– Individual and small-group tuition

The school also supports students who are already enrolled elsewhere but need specialised help to improve performance. Parents can therefore access professional academic support without necessarily changing their child’s current school.

Personalised Learning: Every Child Deserves an Individual Strategy

At Boaz International School, students are not placed in a classroom and expected to learn at the same speed.

Teachers take time to understand individual learning gaps, identify strengths and monitor progress. Materials, assignments and assessments are adapted to each learner’s level.

The goal is not merely to finish a syllabus, but to ensure students genuinely understand what they are learning.

Preparing Students for Global Opportunities

Education should open doors beyond the classroom.

Boaz International School prepares students for a globally competitive world by combining academic excellence with university guidance, career mentorship and exposure to international opportunities.

Students are encouraged to explore competitive universities abroad, understand admission requirements and prepare for opportunities that can shape their future careers.

The school believes a student’s background should never limit their opportunities. With the right foundation, mentorship and preparation, learners can compete confidently on the international stage.

The Future of Education Is Personalised, Flexible and Results-Oriented

As Kenya’s education landscape continues to evolve, institutions that combine individual attention, technology, strong academic leadership and flexible learning models are becoming increasingly important.

Boaz International School is positioning itself firmly in that space.

Under the leadership of Teacher Boaz Omuga, it continues to pursue a bold vision: making quality international education more accessible, while preparing learners to compete successfully in Kenya and across the world.

For parents looking for a school that takes individual academic performance seriously, Boaz International School offers a different approach to learning.

Your child’s academic potential may be greater than you think. Sometimes, all they need is the right teacher, the right environment and the right strategy.

Nairobi, Kenya, 4th November 2026 – Kenyan consumers are looking beyond price and promotional offers when choosing products and services, placing greater importance on quality, reliability and brands they can trust. This is putting businesses under pressure to demonstrate consistent value and build reputations that influence purchasing decisions.

New research conducted by Kantar, released by Superbrands East Africa, shows that 86% of surveyed consumers are likely to purchase a product or service carrying the Superbrands seal. The study further found that 84% believe the recognition would increase their trust in a brand, while 85% say it would encourage them to consider buying a product or trying a new service.

“Kenyan consumers have many brands to choose from, but what ultimately matters is whether a brand delivers on its promises. The findings show that quality, reliability, and distinction remain at the centre of purchasing decisions. For businesses, this is a reminder that consumer trust must be earned consistently through brand building, not simply through advertising,” said Jawad Jaffer, Project Director & Associate Publisher, Superbrands East Africa.

The findings come as Superbrands East Africa unveils Kenya’s strongest brands for 2026, recognising brands that have established strong reputations across different sectors of the economy.

The research found that 81% of consumers believe the Superbrands seal helps brands stand out from competitors, while an equal proportion say it helps them identify leading brands within their respective categories. However, consumers remain conscious of value, with 63% indicating they would consider paying a higher price for a brand carrying the seal. This suggests that while brand recognition can strengthen consumer confidence, businesses must continue demonstrating value to retain customer loyalty.

The 2026 research assessed brands across 112 categories, with consumers evaluating familiar brands against three key attributes: quality, reliability and distinction. These measure whether a brand delivers quality products and services, performs consistently and stands out from competitors. According to Keith Pere and Wetindi Patrick, Project Leads at Kantar Insights EA, brands that perform strongly are those that meet consumers’ functional and emotional needs while offering something meaningfully different from competitors.

“What makes Superbrands recognition meaningful is that it reflects the experiences and perceptions of consumers themselves. A strong brand is not simply one that people recognise, but one that has earned their trust. Superbrands recognition acknowledges the reputation businesses have built in the minds of consumers, and the importance of continually earning and maintaining that confidence,” said Jaffer.

The study also identified an opportunity to strengthen public understanding of the recognition. While 50% of surveyed consumers associate the Superbrands seal with excellence, quality and trust, 26% mistake it for a manufacturer’s logo.

Product packaging remains the leading point of exposure to the seal, cited by 64% of respondents, followed by television at 31% and social media at 29%.

The research also examined the role of social media influencers in shaping consumer decisions. It found that 58% of consumers trust influencer recommendations at least some of the time, although only 10% trust them consistently. Another 42% indicated that they do not trust influencer recommendations, either because they consider endorsements insincere or prefer making independent purchasing decisions.

The findings point to the importance of building consumer confidence through consistent customer experiences, product quality and reliability alongside advertising and promotional campaigns. Consumer willingness to recommend brands carrying the Superbrands seal has also improved, with the Net Promoter Score rising from 10 in 2024 to 31 in 2026.

From teachers and nurses to lawyers, journalists and university lecturers, a new volunteer network wants to take civic education beyond political rallies and into workplaces, neighbourhoods and everyday conversations.

With Kenya’s political temperature gradually rising ahead of the 2027 General Election, more than 200 professionals have come together with a different approach to national mobilisation — calling on citizens to become more informed, responsible and actively involved in shaping the country’s future.

The professionals, drawn from education, healthcare, law, journalism and academia, gathered in Nairobi on October 31, 2026, for the official launch of Nchi Yetu Volunteers, a community-based civic engagement initiative founded by Peter Nyaranga, who also serves as the group’s coordinator and spokesperson.

At a time when political personalities, party alliances and succession debates are increasingly dominating public conversations, the initiative seeks to redirect attention to the role of ordinary citizens in strengthening Kenya’s democracy.

Its philosophy is anchored on four principles: patriotism, volunteerism, integrity and collective responsibility.

For Nyaranga, professionals should not remain spectators in matters affecting the country. Their knowledge, experience and influence within society, he believes, place them in a unique position to provide guidance and encourage positive civic participation.

“Professionals should be at the forefront of offering direction and guidance to society. We have a responsibility to transform patriotism from something we simply talk about into practical action that contributes to the well-being and future of our country,” he said.

That conviction is at the heart of the movement.

“Patriotism must go beyond words and political conversations. As professionals, we have a responsibility to help citizens understand their role in building the country. We want to turn patriotism into practical action,” Nyaranga added.

Taking civic education beyond political rallies

One of the most distinctive aspects of Nchi Yetu Volunteers is its grassroots approach to civic engagement.

Rather than relying solely on public forums and large gatherings, the group intends to take conversations about citizenship directly to people in their everyday environments.

Volunteers will engage colleagues in workplaces, community groups, residential neighbourhoods and other social spaces. Telephone calls and messaging platforms will also form part of the mobilisation strategy.

Each volunteer is expected to reach at least five people daily, creating a chain of personal engagement that the organisation hopes will grow into a wider national network.

“We believe meaningful change can begin with simple conversations. If every volunteer reaches at least five people daily, we can gradually build a network of informed and responsible citizens,” Nyaranga explained.

The initiative has identified three priority areas: encouraging voter registration and responsible participation in elections, promoting national values, and strengthening public understanding of constitutionalism.

The timing is significant. As political mobilisation gathers momentum ahead of 2027, questions about voter participation, public accountability, constitutional rights and citizens’ responsibilities are likely to become increasingly important.

Beyond the ballot

While voter registration and participation are central to the initiative, its ambitions extend beyond election day.

The group wants citizens to understand that their responsibility to the country does not begin when politicians announce their candidacies, or end when election results are declared.

“Civic responsibility should not be seasonal. It should not only become important when politicians are looking for votes. Citizens need to understand their rights, responsibilities and the Constitution at all times,” Nyaranga said.

Understanding the Constitution, respecting the rule of law, demanding accountability, participating in public affairs and embracing national values are among the principles the volunteers intend to promote.

The initiative’s longer-term vision is to build a national volunteer network connecting professionals, institutions, community groups and development partners.

Such a network, if successfully established, could provide a platform for professionals to contribute their expertise to conversations and activities addressing issues of national and community interest.

It also presents an opportunity to rethink how civic education is delivered, particularly among communities that may not regularly participate in formal public forums.

As Kenya prepares for another election cycle, Nchi Yetu Volunteers is betting on the power of individual citizens and everyday conversations to influence the country’s democratic culture.

Ultimately, patriotism is not simply about singing the national anthem, waving the Kenyan flag or expressing loyalty to political leaders. It is also about understanding one’s rights and responsibilities, registering as a voter and actually turning up to vote.

Because building Nchi Yetu is not just the responsibility of those seeking political office. It is a collective responsibility of every Kenyan.

The Seventh Edition of Pwani Innovation Week 2026 came to a spectacular close with an electrifying concert that brought together hundreds of enthusiastic youth for an evening of music, dance, comedy and cultural performances, alongside calls for the young people to shun drug and substance abuse and resist being manipulated by politicians to fuel violence ahead of the 2027 General Election.

After a week of activities themed “A Decade and Beyond: Youth, Innovation and Coastal Future,” organised by the Swahili Pot Hub Foundation, the curtains came down at the Coast Gymkhana grounds, with a lively celebration dubbed Pwani Got Talent.

The concert attracted hundreds of excited youths who filled the venue, dancing, singing along to popular hits and enthusiastically cheering performers, as they enjoyed captivating live performances, with celebrated musicians Iyanii and J Melody, among the headline acts.

The atmosphere was charged with excitement as the young revellers immersed themselves in the pulsating music, vibrant cultural displays and hilarious comedy performances, turning the evening into a memorable celebration of creativity, talent and youthful energy.

Swahili Pot Hub Foundation Founder, Mahmoud Noor, said the concert was intended to provide a celebratory atmosphere after a week of intensive activities involving volunteers, innovators and partners.

“Some of them have been working for the last six months so that they can showcase some of the innovations that they have. We normally end by celebrating the creatives of the Coast, but we also bring in creatives from East Africa because of Pwani. Our intention is a coastal Pwani from Kismayu to Sofala in Mozambique,” stated Noor.

He noted that the concert also provided a platform for recognising, rewarding, promoting and nurturing emerging artists, with one spoken-word artist securing a one-year deal with one of the corporate partners during the event.

“I think that is the essence. You celebrate, but we also showcase talent. We also generate revenue by allowing small businesses to supply food, drinks, and water. It’s an opportunity for people to make money. It’s an opportunity for money to circulate, but most importantly, our concerts are alcohol-free, drug-free,” said Noor.

He emphasised that young people could enjoy themselves and have fun at concerts without consuming alcohol or drugs, noting that soft drinks and water were enough to keep the celebrations going.

The youth were also encouraged not to lose hope despite the prevailing economic challenges, with Noor urging them to remain focused, resilient and committed to pursuing their dreams.

“It is for them to keep their dreams alive, for them to acquire whatever skills that they can, and they must be resilient because when times are hard, you must be resilient,” he said.

The youth were further urged to reject attempts by politicians to recruit them as agents of violence and chaos for personal political gain, instead encouraging them to make informed voting decisions and shun handouts offered in exchange for political support.

“It is important that as we go towards elections, we should not allow young people to be used. The young people should not be used, because it is an opportunity for them to shape the country,” he said.

He added: “While you are shaping the country, please, on the issue of tokenism, we should try as much as possible to avoid people who are trying to buy us off. We need to mobilise around people who have ideas, who have issues that will transform this country.”

Coca-Cola Coastal Bottlers Public Affairs, Communication and Sustainability Manager, Pauline Mwaura, said the Company sponsored the event through its Fanta Skizia Utamu campaign, describing Pwani Got Talent, as a major celebration of young people expressing themselves through music, talent, content creation, games and shared experiences.

“They express themselves in different ways, culture-wise, music-wise, fashion-wise, and that is just what the brand is about. We see them express themselves on stage and enjoy themselves,” stated Mwaura, adding that the youth were playing a critical role in shaping society and preserving culture.

She urged more companies to invest in young people through Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives that nurture their talents, create opportunities and enable them to earn a living.

“My message to other corporations is to invest in the youth, continue to bring out their boldness and their bubbliness. They enjoy themselves when they are outside, and they continue to bring society back to its roots,” she said.

She added: “This platform is for them to express themselves, for them to get the recognition they deserve, and for us to just celebrate each other in a fun, bubbly way, as they drink as much Fanta as they can.”

Influencer Quincey Njeri, urged young people not to shy away from showcasing their talents, noting that corporate organisations were increasingly willing to support initiatives that help them realize their dreams.

She also cautioned the youth against falling prey to politicians seeking to exploit them for political purposes as the country prepares for the 2027 General Election.

NAIROBI, Kenya 2nd November: Ngao Credit has expanded its physical footprint with four new regional branches in Embu, Malindi, Kitale and Machakos, seeking to meet growing demand for accessible financing among businesses, traders, farmers and salaried professionals.

The expansion, under the lender’s Ngao Mtaani initiative, is designed to reduce the distance customers travel to access credit and other financial services while strengthening the company’s reach into regional economic hubs.

The new branches will provide access to the lender’s financing solutions, including local financing, asset financing and import finance, including import duty financing, enabling businesses to access capital closer to their places of operation.

Ngao Credit Country Sales Agency Manager, Francis Mwangi, said the expansion responds to demand from customers in the four markets and reflects the company’s strategy of bringing financial services closer to underserved communities.

“The idea behind this expansion is to reduce the hassles our clients face when travelling long distances to access credit. We want financial services to be easily accessible by bringing our services closer to where our clients work and live,” said Mwangi.

The lender is targeting businesses that need working capital to sustain operations, acquire assets and take advantage of emerging opportunities in their respective markets. The expansion also seeks to serve customers who may struggle to qualify for credit from traditional lending institutions.

Mwangi said the choice of these locations reflects the distinct economic activities driving demand for credit in each region. Embu offers opportunities in agriculture and agribusiness, where farmers, traders and other value-chain players require financing to support production and trade. In Malindi, the lender is targeting businesses operating across tourism, trade and the blue economy.

Kitale’s agricultural and trading economy presents opportunities to finance farmers, merchants and related enterprises, while Machakos provides another regional base from which the lender can serve businesses and professionals.

“We want to become part and parcel of our clients’ success stories by providing financing that helps them unlock these opportunities and move their businesses forward,” he said.

The expansion comes as access to affordable and appropriate credit remains a key consideration for small and medium-sized enterprises, which often require financing to manage cash flow, acquire equipment and respond to market demand.

The lender said its approach is built around long-term customer relationships rather than individual lending transactions. According to the Country Sales Agency Manager, referrals account for approximately 70 per cent of the lender’s KSh1.3 billion loan portfolio, which he cited as evidence of the relationships the company has established with customers.

“Seventy per cent of our KSh1.3 billion portfolio comes through referrals. That speaks to the relationships we are building with our customers and the confidence they have in our services,” Mwangi said.

The lender is also leveraging digital channels through the Ngao app, which enables customers to access credit remotely, complementing its expanding physical branch network. The combination of digital access and regional branches is intended to make the customer journey more convenient, from initial engagement and onboarding to post-disbursement support.

“Our focus is to grow businesses and improve livelihoods across the communities we serve. We do not view every business as just a transaction, we build relationships and walk with our clients through different stages of their growth,” he said.

The four branches mark Ngao Credit’s next phase of domestic expansion, with the lender indicating that it intends to extend its reach further as demand develops.

The company said it will prioritise strengthening its presence and delivering value to businesses across Kenya before pursuing opportunities beyond the country.

“The new branches are a beginning, not an end point. Demand from customers in these areas has informed our decision to expand, and we want to build on this momentum by ensuring our services deliver meaningful value to businesses and communities,” Mwangi said.

Kenya Women Microfinance Bank (KWFT) has built a cumulative KES6.7 billion housing finance loan book, as regional financial institutions show growing interest in its Nyumba Smart model for helping low-income households finance the construction and improvement of decent homes

The bank has issued more than 100,000 housing loans to over 83,000 customers, with an average loan size of KES70,000 with the portfolio recording a 98 per cent performance rate.

Unlike conventional mortgages, which typically require households to borrow substantial amounts upfront, the Nyumba Smart model is designed around the way many rural families build their homes; gradually and using locally available materials to keep construction costs manageable.

Customers can access financing in stages based on their immediate construction needs, from purchasing building materials and laying foundations to putting up walls, roofing and completing the house.

The approach also recognises how many rural households build over time using locally available materials to reduce construction costs. By providing financing in stages, customers can build according to their financial ability rather than having to raise the full cost of construction upfront.

“For many women and families, building a decent home is not a one-off investment. It is a journey that takes place over time and in stages as household incomes allow. Our approach is to provide financing that matches this reality, enabling customers to improve their homes without having to wait until they can afford to build everything at once,” said Rose Muyanga, Managing Director and CEO, KWFT.

Nyumba Smart was developed to address the housing needs of low-income and underserved households, particularly women who may face barriers to conventional mortgage finance. The model was developed with technical support from Habitat for Humanity following market research and feasibility work in 2014, with a pilot launched in November 2014 before wider rollout in July 2015.

The model has also attracted interest from financial and housing institutions in Tanzania, with a recent delegation visiting Kenya to examine KWFT’s experience in housing microfinance and the application of incremental lending to home construction and improvements.

The delegation comprised representatives from Tanzania Mortgage Refinance Company (TMRC), Tanzania Institute of Bankers (TIOB), NMB Bank Tanzania and CRDB Bank PLC, led by Elibariki Ndosi, CEO of TMRC, and Hellen Waigwa, Senior Manager, Housing Finance Systems at Habitat for Humanity International.

The visit provided an opportunity for the delegation to learn from KWFT’s experience in developing and delivering housing microfinance solutions, with a particular focus on reaching households that are underserved by traditional mortgage finance.

Hellen Waigwa noted that “Across the housing finance sector, there is growing interest in housing microfinance as a practical way to serve households with modest, informal or variable incomes. The opportunity is to develop financing solutions that reflect how families build and improve their homes incrementally and as resources allow. KWFT’s experience offers valuable lessons and insights into designing customer-focused products and building the institutional capabilities needed to deliver them sustainably. These lessons provide useful guidance for financial institutions looking to expand housing finance and reach more underserved households at scale.”

The model links financing to a customer’s housing needs and ability to repay. This involves assessing the construction requirement and household cash flow, determining the appropriate loan amount, disbursing funds, monitoring construction and repayment, and assessing financing for subsequent stages.

Women are a key focus of the approach, given that many earn their livelihoods through small businesses and informal activities that may not fit the income documentation requirements of conventional mortgage lending. Cash-flow assessment and smaller loans allow financing decisions to take account of how customers earn and repay.

The Tanzanian delegation also visited Machakos to see homes supported through housing finance and examine how incremental lending has been used to improve housing conditions at household level

Walk into any phone shop on Moi Avenue or Kimathi Street right now and you’ll see a wall of TECNO boxes. Spark, Camon, POVA, a couple of tablets. If you’re standing there wondering which one is actually for you, relax. This guide is for you.

No spec-sheet lecture. The question is simpler: who are you, and what do you need your phone to do for you? And there’s a second question this year, because every phone in the lineup now comes with a helper called Ella.

First, meet Ella

Ella is TECNO’s AI assistant, and she’s the thread running through the whole range. Think of her as the friend who’s good at phones. You don’t have to dig through menus. You wake her up, say what you want in one sentence, and she gets on with it.

What does that look like on an ordinary Tuesday?

Ask Ella. Say it in one sentence: add this number to my contacts, navigate me to the stage, translate this message. She handles it.

Talk in your own language. TECNO has worked with Google on its Gemini models so Ella copes with languages including Swahili, plus translation for calls, screenshots and photos.

Clearer calls. AI call noise cancellation cuts out matatu horns, market chatter and building-site drilling so the person on the other end hears you.

Everyday shortcuts. Summarize a long YouTube video, organize your notes, or ask Ella to name that song playing in the shop.

Homework help. The newer problem-solving tools have a mode for students learning on their own and one for parents helping their kids.

Here’s how she fits each phone.

The Spark 50 family: for the sensible spender

Spark is TECNO’s “get on with life” line. Nobody buys a Spark to impress anyone. You buy it because you need a phone that works, lasts and doesn’t dent your pocket. And yes, Ella comes along even at this price.

Spark 50 (4G): around KES 19,500

It has a huge 6,700mAh battery and suits a first-time smartphone user, a parent, a student, or anyone who wants WhatsApp, M-Pesa, YouTube and a decent camera without fuss.

This is where Ella is most useful as a helper. If you’re new to smartphones, you can just tell her what you need: call someone, save a contact, find directions, translate a message. Students get a study buddy, and parents get the AI call noise cancellation for chats in a loud house or a busy street.

Spark 50 Pro

The tougher sibling. It’s still 4G with a Helio G100 Ultimate chip, but it has a 6,000mAh battery with 60W charging and IP68 and IP69 water and dust ratings. That makes it a good fit for the boda rider’s pocket, the site engineer, the farmer, or anyone whose phone gets rained on and dropped.

If your hands are covered in dust, mud or flour, voice is the easiest way to work your phone, so Ella earns her keep here. Noise-cancelled calls matter just as much on a noisy site, and the quick translation helps when you’re dealing with customers or suppliers who speak a different language.

The Camon 50 family: for people who live in their camera roll

Camon has always been TECNO’s “I take a lot of photos” line. This year it also gets the strongest dose of Ella, because it’s where TECNO puts its AI tools to work on your pictures, videos and daily workload.

Camon 50: roughly KES 35,000 to 37,500

You get a Helio G200 Ultimate chip, 8GB RAM, 256GB storage and a 144Hz AMOLED screen. The main camera is a 50MP Sony sensor. It’s a flat-screen phone with a big battery, and a good pick for office workers, young professionals and students who want something that looks good and feels quick.

Perfect for the busy young professional. Let Ella summarize that 40-minute YouTube lecture before the exam, tidy up your notes, or name the song on the matatu so you can add it to your playlist. TECNO Kenya has been promoting that song identification feature on this series, and it’s exactly the sort of small trick you’ll end up using daily.

Camon 50 Pro: around KES 38,500 to 44,000 depending on where you shop

It adds a curved screen and a 50MP 3x periscope telephoto camera. The zoom is the real reason to pay more. If you’re photographing events, your kids’ school plays, a wedding, or a client’s product from a distance, that zoom earns its keep. If you mostly shoot selfies and food, the regular Camon 50 gives you nearly everything for less.

This one suits the small-business owner who runs everything from their phone. Ella and the AI tools on the Pro help you organize ideas, summarize videos and handle everyday tasks, while the AI zoom and fast-moving-subject camera modes help your product shots and event photos come out sharp.

Camon 50 Ultra 5G: roughly KES 55,000 to 58,000

The flagship. It runs on a Dimensity 7400 Ultimate chip and has a 6.78-inch curved 1.5K AMOLED at 144Hz. The camera setup is a 50MP main with OIS, a 50MP 3x telephoto and an 8MP ultrawide, plus a 50MP selfie camera. It’s only 7.4mm thin and carries IP66, IP68, IP69 and IP69K ratings, plus 5G. This one is for content creators, wedding and event photographers, and anyone who wants a premium phone without paying iPhone money.

The Ultra has a dedicated AI key for one-tap access to Ella. It’s also the phone where TECNO is testing EllaClaw, a beta feature that goes beyond answering questions and can carry out multi-step tasks for you, such as a daily brief pulling together your calendar, SMS alerts, notes and weather. Creators also get Ella’s image and video tools for stylizing pictures and making video wallpapers. If you want the most out of Ella, this is her best home.

POVA Curve 2 5G: the battery monster

If the Camon is for people who shoot, the POVA is for people who play, scroll and travel, and who hate hunting for a socket.

The POVA Curve 2 5G has an 8,000mAh battery. That’s enormous, and many users will get close to two days out of it. It also has a 6.78-inch curved 144Hz AMOLED display and 45W charging, and the body is a slim 7.42mm. Inside is a Dimensity 7100 chip, and there are 128GB and 256GB options.

Where does it fit in Kenya? Think of the university student in a hall with unreliable power, the sales rep on the road all day, the matatu commuter streaming music, or the mobile gamer who wants a smooth screen.

A phone that lasts two days pairs nicely with an assistant you use all day. The sales rep can ask Ella for directions and quick translations between meetings, and the commuter gets noise-cancelled calls even on a rowdy route. With that battery, you can lean on her without watching the percentage.

The trade-offs are plain. The camera is average (50MP plus a 2MP helper), there’s no headphone jack, and the water resistance is only IP64, so keep it away from puddles. At 195g it has some heft. If battery life is your top priority, this is the one.

So, which one are you?

First phone, tight budget, want a helper that does the talking: Spark 50 (4G)

Rough on your phone, want fast charging and hands-free help: Spark 50 Pro

Great looks, great camera, and Ella for work and study: Camon 50

You need the zoom and run a business from your phone: Camon 50 Pro

Photographer or creator who wants 5G, a premium feel and the full Ella experience: Camon 50 Ultra 5G

Battery and gaming come first: POVA Curve 2 5G

A tip for you? Buy from an authorised TECNO dealer, and register your warranty yourself. The shop won’t do it for you. A few thousand shillings saved on a dodgy seller isn’t worth a phone with no support. Once you’re home, spend five minutes with Ella. Wake her up, ask her something silly, then ask her something useful. You’ll quickly see why TECNO is pushing her this year.

The activation brought together students, campus entertainers and digital creators for a colourful celebration of youth culture, with popular Kenyan content creator and musician Collo Blue leading the excitement as the campaign’s main influencer.

From energetic dance battles to electrifying rap performances, KU students had the opportunity to showcase their talents, transforming the campus into a lively platform for creativity, entertainment and self-expression.

Collo Blue Brings the #SkiziaUtamu Energy to KU

One of the biggest highlights of the activation was the presence of Collo Blue, whose infectious personality and connection with Kenya’s youth have made him one of the standout faces of the #SkiziaUtamu campaign.

The popular creator, who collaborated with Fanta on the campaign anthem, brought his signature energy to the university, connecting with students and encouraging them to embrace their creativity.

His appearance added to the excitement as students joined in the fun, celebrated their favourite creator and experienced the campaign beyond their social media feeds.

KU Talent Takes Centre Stage

While Collo Blue brought the star power, Kenyatta University students were equally central to the experience.

The activation created a platform for student performers to demonstrate their skills through rap battles, dance challenges and live entertainment.

Rappers stepped up to showcase their lyrical abilities, while dancers brought their best moves to the floor, creating memorable moments of friendly competition and campus entertainment.

The performances reflected the creativity and confidence of KU’s student community, reinforcing the campaign’s message that young people should have opportunities to express themselves and celebrate what makes them unique.

Beyond the performances, students enjoyed interactive Fanta experiences, opportunities to connect with fellow students and moments worth capturing and sharing online.

The #SkiziaUtamu Challenge Comes to Campus

The Kenyatta University activation is part of Fanta’s nationwide campus tour, which is bringing music, creators and immersive brand experiences directly to students across Kenya.

A central feature of the campaign is the Fanta User Generated Content (UGC) Challenge, which encourages young Kenyans to create original videos showcasing their personalities, talents and interpretation of #SkiziaUtamu.

Students can participate by scanning the campaign QR code, registering for the challenge and creating content using the official campaign hashtag.

Fanta is also running a campus and college competition that encourages participating institutions to work together towards collective Fanta consumption and responsible packaging collection and recycling targets. Campuses that successfully meet their targets stand a chance to unlock a major Fanta experience featuring music, entertainment, creators and exciting activities.

More Than Just a Campus Activation

Launched in August with the FantaVerse experience at Uhuru Gardens, #SkiziaUtamu continues to bring together music, digital creativity, campus culture and unforgettable shared experiences.

For Kenyatta University students, the activation was another opportunity to put campus talent in the spotlight while connecting with one of Kenya’s most exciting youth-focused campaigns.

And with the #SkiziaUtamu movement continuing across the country, the message to students is simple: bring your creativity, show off your talent and let the good vibes flow!

NAIROBI, KENYA, 25 October 2026 – Abraham Kiptum and Mercy Rotich claimed the men’s and
women’s 42km titles, respectively, at the 23rd Standard Chartered Nairobi Marathon, while Nahason
Kipsang and Orba Chemurgor won the corresponding 21km Half Marathon titles, Alfred Kimani and
Joy Cheptoyek triumphed in the 10km race, and Samuel Kuria and Mercyline Ajenjo took the 21km
wheelchair titles.

A KES 11.24 million prize purse rewarded performances across the race programme, led by KES 2
million first-place awards in the 42km Full Marathon. Winners in both the 21km Half Marathon and
wheelchair race received KES 300,000, while the 10km champions earned KES 200,000. Team
competition also shared in the rewards, with KES 100,000 allocated to each winning Corporate Relay
and PWD team.
The event brought together 30,700 participants representing more than 100 nationalities, including
over 400 elite athletes. Backed by record sponsorship of KES 273 million, it combined elite racing and
mass participation along Nairobi’s Southern Bypass, with views of Nairobi National Park.
The marathon raised KES 76 million through registration fees, all of which will go to community
programmes supported by the Standard Chartered Foundation, which focuses on helping young
people learn, earn and grow through education, employability and entrepreneurship. This brings the
total funds raised since the marathon’s inception to KES 596 million. The funds will support initiatives
that expand economic opportunities, particularly for young people, women and persons with
disabilities.
“This marathon brings the world to Nairobi and turns a shared passion for running into opportunities
that last beyond race day. Runners from more than 100 nationalities demonstrate sport’s power to
connect people; the funds they help raise support young people to build skills, find employment and
grow businesses through the Standard PUBLIC
Chartered Foundation. That is the legacy our runners, sponsors, partners
and volunteers are building together,” said Birju Sanghrajka, CEO,
Standard Chartered Kenya.
Behind the scale of participation was a focus on the individual runner’s experience. This year’s support
measures included 19 hydration stations, roaming bicycle medics, dedicated muscle relief stations,
improved post-race recovery services and downloadable digital finisher certificates.
“The strength of an international marathon is not just the size of its field, but the quality of the
experience and the integrity of the competition. From elite athletes chasing a podium place to
recreational runners pursuing a personal goal, every participant deserves dependable support. Our
focus was on getting the essentials right: accurate timing, medical care, hydration and recovery,” said
David Mwindi, Chairman of the Standard Chartered Nairobi Marathon Local Organising Committee.
“The marathon’s World Athletics Road Race Label reflects the standards upheld across course
measurement, timing, medical support and anti-doping procedures. Working with the Anti-Doping
Agency of Kenya, selected top finishers underwent testing in line with race regulations, supporting fair
competition and the integrity of the sport.”
In a further commitment to environmental sustainability, every finisher received a tree seedling to
plant, contributing to the organisers’ target of planting 40,000 trees in partnership with Nairobi City
County. Other measures included waste segregation, recycling and efforts to reduce single-use plastics.
The 2026 registration profile showed women in the majority, with 15,796 registered runners (51.5 per
cent of all registrations) compared with 14,904 men (48.5 per cent). Millennials accounted for 15,544
registrations (50.6 per cent), Gen X accounted for 3,782 (12.3 per cent), Gen Z for 10,175 (33.1 per
cent) and Gen Alpha for 920 (3.0 per cent), while 86 per cent of registered participants were aged 45
and below.
Demand for places emerged months before race day: registration closed in July after more than 30,700
entries filled the available slots. That early response, alongside the international field and sponsor
backing, framed an event whose appeal extended beyond the contest for podium places.
